Are you being laid off?

It has come to the attention of the North Carolina State Board of Environmental Health Specialist Examiners that a number of environmental health positions have been terminated by local health departments across the state. It is our understanding that the majority of the positions being terminated are interns.

This message is to let you know that the Board has a record of the employment (date of employment), scores from exam(s), and attendance of Centralized Intern Training for each registered Environmental Health Specialist intern. We retain that information indefinitely.

In the event an individual is rehired as an environmental health specialist intern in North Carolina, when he or she applies for registration, the Board credits the above so that the individual does not have to start over from the beginning. He or she will have to apply as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist Intern, but the Board will count the previous experience, the exam grades, and the fact that CIT was successfully completed.

The Board regrets that these positions were terminated, but wanted to clarify that it is aware of the terminations and to let the profession know that we look forward to their re-joining the environmental health work force again in the future.

If you have any questions regarding your registration status, feel free to contact any Board member.
